I stumbled upon the Pussy Hat Project the other day on Instagram. If you haven’t heard, there is a Women’s March on Washington happening January 21st, 2017 – on Trump’s first day in office. It is predicted that there could be over one million marchers, and the Pussy Hat Project wants to provide those marchers with pink cat hats to make a statement and help activists be heard. It’s a way for those of us who can’t be there to make our voices heard. More information, an official cat hat pattern and an address to send your cat hats can be found at www.pussyhatproject.com.
If you’re like me, you have a million projects going on and not a lot of time. So I whipped up a super simple, super fast (takes about an hour!) cat hat. Please consider making a hat or two for this project! Here is the FREE pattern…
Super Cat Hat

Yarn: 60 yds/55 m Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Raspberry (or similar super bulky yarn)
Needles: US 15/10 mm 16 in circular needle OR size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Stitch marker Tapestry needle
Gauge: 9 sts and 13 rounds = 4in/10cm in Stockinette St
Sizes: Child [Adult] to fit head circumferences: 18-19.5 [21-22.5] in
Abbreviations:
CO – cast on
k – knit
p – purl
pm – place marker
st(s) – stitch(es)
Pattern
Brim:
CO 40 [44] sts. Pm and join in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Work in k1, p1 rib for 6 [8] rounds.
Body:
Work in Stockinette St (knit every round) until hat measures 7 [8] inches from CO edge.
Finishing:
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Divide sts in half and pull the cable through so that 20 [22] sts are on each needle. Kitchener stitch the top of the hat closed (please see video below). Weave in ends and block, if desired.
