Daylight Breaking
Happy Friday! If you’ve been around for a while, this pattern might look familiar! This is my Daylight Breaking shawl pattern, which was included in issue 8 of the Sewing Box Magazine last fall. I’m happy to say I’m sharing it today for free right here on the blog!
Daylight Breaking is essentially the sequel to my Daylight Fading pattern, which was published in 2017. Daylight Breaking is slightly smaller in size (62 inches long), takes only 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn, features shorter sections, and improved increases and edge stitches.
I used my dear friend Ali’s (from Explorer Knits and Fibers) beautiful hand dyed yarn for this project! I used her Denali Sock base (80% SWM/20% Nylon): 290 yds/265 m (1 skein) of Color A (Sweater Weather), 315 yds/288 m (1 skein) of Color B (Lavender Forever).

Notes: Each of the 8 sections are worked for 48 rows in total. Increases are made just before the last stitch of every RS row. It is recommended to place a locking stitch marker on the RS of the work to keep track of increase rows. All slipped sts will be slipped with the yarn in back. During the striped sections, the alternating color is carried along the right edge of the work. Do not cut yarn during striped sections. Simply drop one color and pick up the next to continue.
With CA, CO 3 sts using the long tail method.
