Canopy

In May of last year, I was contacted by the wonderful people at KnitCrate about designing a pattern for one of their subscription boxes. Did I jump up and down after receiving their email? Possibly… 😉 I’ve been a huge fan of KnitCrate and the incredible designs and yarns they come out with every month, so I (literally) jumped at the chance!

It’s crazy to finally see this pattern out in the world today. I started designing this last fall, right around the time when my little city of Midland, Michigan opened the country’s longest canopy walk.

I was inspired to create a shawl that mirrored the natural beauty of the conifers and also the man-made elements of the canopy walk.

I had the pleasure of using Audine Wools Sigh DK, which is a merino and cashmere yarn blend. It is sooo soft, and available in two gorgeous colors for this month’s KnitCrate box.

You can find Canopy included in this month’s KnitCrate, as well as two skeins of Audine Wools Sigh DK. Feel free to use the coupon code “DESTINY20” to save 20% of your first crate! You can cancel your subscription at any time.

You can also find the pattern separately in my store below.

I have your Canopy pattern from Knitcrate and have reached row 27-57 stitches, which is the beginning of chart a.
I am having a problem after the x2 of the pattern where it ‘s k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1*. Here at the ssk and k1 I run into my markers. I have 4 stitches before my marker. If I left out the ssk and follow the pattern from there I am ok until I do the * repeat and the ssk is a problem again. If I leave the ssk out, k1 (*end of * repeat) and then I am at yo, slm, and knit 3. Otherwise, I have too many stitches for that row–it calls for 61 stitches.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

Hi Mary, I’m so sorry for the confusion. There is an errata coming from KnitCrate soon with an updated pattern. Basically, where it says “repeat rows 5 and 6 ten times more”, you want to actually repeat it eleven times more. You should receive an updated version shortly. Feel free to email me if you have any questions!

I have the revised pattern and I still have 2 too many stiches left when working the first part of chart a it seems the stich count was revised but not the actual stiches. I’ve tried working the chart and then the written but I still have 2 stiches remain before the first maker of the spine.

Hi Ann Marie, Unfortunately KnitCrate sent out the first update about a week ago without actually correcting the error. I believe they fixed it on Friday, so if you download it again you should be fine! Or shoot me an email and I can send you the correct version. Happy knitting!
